Great ryokan style experience with very warm and friendly staff (front desk and restaurant staff were wonderful!!). They were steps ahead knowing what guests needed (even offering candies to beat heatstroke! And also had signs reminding guests of essentials to bring when heading out). Rooms were nice and spacious. Amenities were good and the kaiseki dinner was a fantastic experience. Location was also superb being right in front of the metro station. Also the key sightseeing areas were walkable from the hotel and very convenient. They also accommodated our luggage before and after check in as we still wanted to go around. Absolutely enjoyable stay!

Conveniently located in front of the train station and a convenient store. A 20+ min stroll to the main tourist streets and Arashiyama bamboo forest. There were 5 private onsen and a public one. Each of the 5 private onsen are different. There were free ice-cream from 3pm-midnight, yakult drink in the morning and some tea-making thing from 3-6pm. Free Ramen served from 10.30-11.30pm but be early for it cause there’s limited dining space. Hotel breakfast was excellent and a highlight! Also make sure to book dinner at hotel in advance, and if you didn’t manage to like me, settle your dinner before 6pm as surrounding restaurants seem to close early.

Like many have mentioned, this ryokan is quite commercialised. Therefore, it comes with all the pros of commercialisation. Unlike traditional ryokans, Kadensho comes equipped with your private shower, so there is no need to bathe with strangers if you don't want to. The staff seems quite international, and the prevalence and proficiency of English (and other languages too!) are also much higher than traditional ones. That said, it is still a ryokan, and the premises is beautiful. There are five private baths, one of which has a tub that is only big enough for one person.

The location is amazing for anyone taking a train into the area. You walk out of the train station and it is right there. We liked the onsen, but the queue for getting into them is a bit confusing. Our friend was nervous about doing a public onsen, so this was a great alternative to let her have the experience. We got a birthday cake delivered to our room and they made that easy. They also had yummy treats near the baths and hot or iced drink machines.

Great breakfast spread. Alot of effort was put into the preparation. Free Ramen supper was super. Onsen offered a variety of body products and scrubs. Very good. The free tea and daily wagashi at the reception was of very good quality. Free coffee, yakult and ice cream outside the onsen was a great bonus. There was a wide choice of yukata selection. The tatami floor was great for walking around barefoot and the lift floor was heated!
